    • When
      Tuesday February 7, 2012
    • Time
      6:30pm until 8:00pm
  • Description
Join the Brothers of PHI BETA SIGMA, the YALE BLACK STUDENT ALLIANCE, and the SCSU BLACK STUDENT UNION as we host a panel discussion examining the paradox of "American Freedom/American Slavery". The program takes a critical look at one of the great anomalies of U.S. History, namely how America became the definitive example of Liberty, Freedom, and Democracy for the entire world, yet at the same time managed to set the standard in how to systematically enslave millions of its people. We have brought together some of the Nation's foremost scholars to examine this topic.

We will examine this issue through many lenses, but particularly focus on the disciplines of History, the Social Sciences, Religion, and Constitutional Law.

We hope that all who attend will gain further insight into one of our nation's most defining aspects; the paradox of Freedom and Slavery in antebellum America.

EVENT IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC...ALL ARE WELCOME!!!

    Panelists:
Professor David Blight- (Yale University, History Dept)
Professor Elijah Anderson- (Yale University, Sociology Dept)
Professor Claire Priest- US Constitutional Law Expert (Yale Law School)
Rev. Tyrone McGowan- CNN's Black Men in the Age of Obama (Yale Divinity)
