Dr. King's Brotherhood Economy

Demos Update: "If Dr. King were alive today, he would be challenging all Americans to break down the economic barriers that keep true equality out of reach. The Great Recession only deepened the challenges facing African-Americans, young and old. For example, as the data byte below illustrates, a much greater proportion of young African-Americans are forced to take on debt to attain an undergraduate degree, an important milestone en route to the American Dream.

Dr. King would remind us that economic justice is intrinsically tied to building a true "brotherhood of man" among all Americans. He understood that an economy with deep-seated inequities – where Americans don’t feel like we’re all in it together – puts the very fabric of our society at risk. Like you, Demos is committed to continuing the legacy of Dr. King, voicing the economic realities and needs of millions of Americans.
