NEW HAVEN INDEPENDENT COVERAGE
A public meeting was held on Wednesday, January
11, at the Hall of Records at 200 Orange St., at 6:00 pm to review and
discuss the process for Town Committee selection. The meeting was chaired by
Susan L. Voigt, Chair, New Haven Democratic Town Committee
January is an important month as the TC seeks to define and shape our local
Democratic Town Committee for the next two years. Town Committee Members,
often called the “Co-Chairs” serve for a two year term.
In New Haven, local party rules call for an open primary process and
unlike many other towns, there are no party endorsements. Any Democrat may
petition to run.
*Article IV, Endorsement of Candidates, Section 1 says*
*…No candidate for membership on the Town Committee shall be endorsed by
the Town Committee. All candidates for membership on the Town Committee
shall run by petition as provided by state statutes.*
