The third annual Neil A. Weiner Research Speaker Series presents
Sudhir Venkatesh: “The Underground Economy as a Regulation Problem” 
Sudhir Venkatesh, William B. Ransford Professor of Sociology at Columbia University, speaks on how people maintain social order and cope with the effects of a thriving underground economy. Professor Venkatesh’s presentation will draw on long-term data about disputes in underground markets in Chicago and New York.
Sudhir Venkatesh is a researcher and writer on urban neighborhoods in the United States. His most recent book isGang Leader for a Day (Penguin Press).
