A NOTE TO FRIENDS FROM KICA MATOS

As some of you may know, today is Bank Transfer Day, a campaign aimed at encouraging consumers to pull their money out of banks and deposit it into community banks or credit unions.For those of you intending to join the campaign, I urge you to consider banking with New Haven's own community bank -- START bank, with branches on Whalley Avenue and Grand Avenue. As you may recall, START Bank was created as a result of vigorous advocacy by members of the New Haven community who opposed the decision by the New Haven Savings Bank to convert to shareholder-owned New Alliance in 2004, which was then sold to First Niagara, a bank with headquarters in upstate New York.
