HARTFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT GOES PINK

HARTFORD FIRE DEPARTMENT GOES PINK
--- NEWS AND COMMUNITY RELEASE---
Hartford Firefighters across the City will be wearing Pink Shirts, on duty, during the last week in October in support of the many women and men who have been affected by cancer. Firefighters and First Responders often see ---up close--- the impact and suffering that cancer causes many families.
“Firefighters themselves are two to four times more susceptible to several cancers due to the exposure. By making such a powerful statement with HFD Pink Shirts within our community we are hoping to bring the much needed awareness and attention to the promotion and importance of early detection,” said Chief Edward Casares, Jr.
“I am very proud of the brave men and women of the HFD who serve and protect us each and every day. This demonstration of continuous support and generosity lets our families know they are not alone in the battle against cancer,” said Mayor Pedro E. Segarra.
Members of the Hartford Fire Department will take part in the MAKING STRIDES AGAINST BREAST CANCER 5K Walk at Bushnell Park on October 23, 2001 @ 9am. The community is encouraged to show their support. HFD Pink Shirts will be on Sale at the 5K. All proceeds are being donated to the AMERICAN CANCER FOUNDATION Making Strides for Breast Cancer Foundation.
