The Pequot War was the result of growing tensions between the English colonists and the native Pequots. Those who vilify Mason, one of the leaders of the Pequot War, do so because the war was a brutal massacre which nearly wiped the Pequot Tribe off the face of the earth. The attack by English colonial forces, aided by Mohegan and Narragansett allies, brought the deaths of more than 400 Pequot men, women, and children, as well as the subsequent execution or enslavement of survivors.
