Members of faith and community organizations, school officials, families, and others others participated in a conference aimed at forming partnerships to tackle the biggest challenges in Connecticut education in Cromwell on Sept. 23
The conference, titled “Connecting Faith, Families & Schools: Partnering for Student Success,” is part of a four‐ year effort to share ideas about the practices inside and outside of schools that can help improve educational outcomes for all students.
The CT Parent Information and Resource Center (CT PIRC) sponsored this important event in collaboration with the State Education Resource Center (SERC) and the Connecticut State Department of Education. For further information regarding future activities go to www.ctpirc.org or call (800) 842‐8678.

About the conference
Family engagement is one of the major indicators of student success, and schools across the country have discovered that faith‐based leaders and community groups are often very effective in encouraging families to stay involved. Conference participants will learn about activities that include families and can be incorporated into schools, community programs, and the faith and worship community.

This year’s conference will use the “Kiva Process,” which originates from the culture of many Native Americans, to engage both the presenters and participants in meaningful dialogue and allow all ideas to be heard.

A highlight of the day was the performance of the Davis Street School Marching Band under the direction of William Flucker.
