Ericka Huggins, Founder of the New Haven Black Panther Party - GNH Community: "Dr. Ericka Huggins (www.erickahuggins.com) is an activist, former political prisoner, educator, and founder of the New Haven chapter of the Black Panther Party. She has lectured for thirty years regarding issues of women and children, HIV/AIDS, incarceration, education, equality for all, and the role of spirituality in activism. In 1969, she was incarcerated in New Haven as a Black Panther, sparking rallies across the country for her release. A book was written about this titled Agony in New Haven: The Trial of Bobby Seal, Ericka Huggins and the Black Panther Party by Donald Freed. She was the director of Oakland Community School, a groundbreaking community-run school founded by the Black Panthers, and she developed the curriculum for it. Currently, she is a professor of Women’s and Gender Studies at San Francisco State University. She will deliver the keynote address at SCSU's Women's Studies Graduate Conference."
