THROUGH THE EYES OF YOUNG LEADERS
CBCF Emerging Leaders Series Focuses on Change
WASHINGTON, DC -Howard Thurman, a great philosopher and civil rights advocate, once said, "Don't ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive."

In this latest installment of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's (CBCF) Emerging Leaders Series, young professionals will have an opportunity to engage in exciting sessions with other passionate leaders and advocates who have come alive in the name of addressing the issues of the global African-American community and Diaspora.

The Series, scheduled as part of CBCF's 41st Annual Legislative Conference (ALC) September 21-24, 2011 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, DC, will consist of four high-impact forums and two networking opportunities. The thought-provoking and timely sessions include the following:

Anatomy of a Revolution: From Alabama to Egypt
This panel discussion will focus on exploring the role that young people have played in organizing, executing and sustaining change movements around the world. Panelists include: Aisha Moodie-Mills, Center from American Progress and Stefanie Brown, National Field Director of NAACP.

The Mathew Effect: Closing the Economic Gap
This session will explore the divide between the rich and the poor that continues to widen in the United States and offer participants real-life examples of pathways to success across economic lines. Panelists include: Margarita Anderson, CNN featured author of "Our Black Year: Buying Black in America's Racially Divided Economy."

The Miseducation of Capitol Hill? Reforming Education Policy
This panel will address key education issues and the ways in which emerging leaders can contribute to the conversation around fixing our education system. Panelists include: Dr. Reagan Flowers, CEO of CSTEM and Dr. Andre Perry, author of "The Garden Path."

iLeadiServe: Emerging Leaders in Action
Young leaders from different sectors will engage session participants in a dialogue about key issues of concern to their generation and strategies for addressing them through leadership and service.

Panelists include: Dr. Marc Lamont Hill, author, and regular commentator for CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News Channel.
The Instant Apprentice Power Luncheon and Emerging Leaders Networking Reception are opportunities for students and young professionals to make critical connections with their peers and seasoned professionals in their prospective fields.

"All over the world we are seeing young people respond with a sense of urgency and innovation to the challenges before them," said Keith Wright, executive vice president and chief operating officer for CBCF. "These forums look at the major impact young people have had shaping the development of our democratic process throughout history and the change they are creating even today."

ALC provides an outlet to highlight the mission of CBCF - to develop leaders, to inform policy and to educate the public - by providing more than 80-high level, thought-provoking forums to address the critical challenges facing the African-American Diaspora. Also offered during the four-day event are free health screenings, a job fair, interactive financial sessions, networking opportunities and cultural activities.

This year, the Foundation is expecting thousands to reflect on its theme: iLead|iServe. ALC attendees will have many opportunities to share their thoughts and experiences on leading and serving - how and why they do it, the value of each, and the impact of each within their lives and their communities. The conference will use social media, a town hall meeting, brain trusts and personal interaction to further encourage discussions and follow-up conversations among attendees.
