JOHN RICE
Yale’s governing board has a new member: E. John Rice Jr. ‘88, founder and CEO of Management Leadership for Tomorrow.
Rice, elected by fellow Yalies, succeeds Will I. Miller ‘78 as alumni fellow on the Yale Corporation. He beat out Wall Streeter Reuben Jeffery III ’75 and consultant Sandra Urie ’85 MPPM in this spring’s balloting.
MLT, a national nonprofit, calls itself “the premier career development institution that equips high potential African Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans with the key ingredients — skills, coaching and door-opening relationships — that unlock their potential.” According to a Yale press release, “nearly 40 percent of the minorities admitted to the top MBA programs last year were graduates of MLT’s programs.”
Rice comes by his leadership naturally. His father, Emmett J. Rice, was a former Cornell economist, World Bank official, and member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Mother Lois Dickson Rice is an education expert at the Brookings Institution. And you might have heard of big sister Susan Rice, U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
Susan is not the only family member with a White House appointment, though: John Rice serves on
the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.
