Tanya McDowell in court this morning, Sharpton in town tonight

NORWALK -- Tanya McDowell, the mother arrested for sending her child to a Norwalk school illegally, is expected in court this morning and will finish her day at a rally in her honor keynoted by Rev. Al Sharpton.

McDowell's attorney is expected to ask for a dismissal of charges today. The court visit is expected to be a short one.

Sharpton is scheduled to appear at Tuesday night's rally outside Brookside Elementary School, where McDowell's son attended kindergarten before her arrest this spring.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is holding the rally.

McDowell has pleaded not guilty to a larceny charge in the case, in which she's accused of stealing public educational services by claiming her son lived at the baby sitter's address. Norwalk officials say he should have been enrolled in Bridgeport schools, her most recent address.
