Somi Live at Central Park's SummerStage with Hugh Masekela and FreshlyGround! Join us in kicking off the beauty of Summertime this Sunday, June 26th at 3PM when Somi's band makes its SummerStage debut in New York City's Central Park! The afternoon's line up also includes Somi's legendary mentor South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela as well as a set by South Africa's premier pop band Freshlyground. Sure to be a fantastic day of music that YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS! Closest park entrance to the stage is on 72nd Street and 5th Avenue. Admission is FREE.
Also this weekend, on Saturday, June 25th, Somi will open for Grammy-winning artist Aaron Neville in Philadelphia's Welcome America Festival at Penn's Landing on the Delaware River Waterfront. Show begins at 7PM Admission is Free. |
Somi at "Africa Redux" at WNYC's Green Space (SOLD OUT)
On Friday, June 24th at 7PM, Somi will join WQXR's host Terrance McKnight, Nigerian afro-beat diva Wunmi, Moroccan vocalist Malika Zarra, and DJ Funmi to discuss the next generation of artistic voices emerging from the African continent. The Green Space is located at 44 Charlton Street in New York City. This event is SOLD OUT. |
Somi Named as 2011 TED Global Fellow
Join us in congratulating Somi for being named a 2011 TED Global Fellow! Earlier this week, TED, the wildely popular nonprofit "devoted to ideas worth spreading", announced a total of 20 new TED Global Fellows. Founded in 2009, the TED Fellows program handpicks world-changing innovators from around the globe, and brings them to the TED stage -- literally and figuratively -- to raise international awareness of their remarkable work. Somi will head to Edinburgh, Scotland this July to attend the TEDGlobal 2011 Conference and will engage with the international TED community year-round.
