Dr. James A. Banks 
Keynote Speaker 
Dr. James A. Banks is considered by many to be the “father of multicultural education”. Professor Banks holds the Kerry and Linda Killinger Endowed Chair in Diversity Studies and is Founding Director of the Center for Multicultural Education at the University of Washington, Seattle. He is a specialist in multicultural education and in social studies education and has written widely in these fields. He is a past president of the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS).


Lee Mun Wah 
Keynote Speaker  

Lee Mun Wah is an internationally renowned Chinese American documentary filmmaker, author, poet, Asian folkteller, educator, community therapist and master diversity trainer. In the summer of 2010, Lee Mun Wah brought together eleven college students from around the country to document the alarming rates of students of color leaving our colleges and to discover the causes for their departures. Director Lee Mun Wah will preview his new film, If These Halls Could Talk (release date: Winter 2011) and lead a diversity dialogue about multiculturalism on college campuses.

Kris D. Gutiérrez 
Keynote Speaker 
 
Kris D. Gutiérrez is Professor of Literacy and Learning Sciences and holds the Inaugural Provost’s Chair at the University of Colorado, Boulder.  She is also Professor Emerita of Social Research Methodology at GSE&IS at UCLA. Professor Gutiérrez is a national leader in education, with an emphasis in literacy and learning. Gutiérrez is a member of the National Academy of Education and is the current President of the American Educational Research Association and President of the National Conference on Research on Language and Literacy. Gutiérrez received her undergraduate and masters degrees in English and Reading Education at Arizona State University and her Ph.D. in English and Education at the University of Colorado at Boulder.  

Attendees should park in either the Student Center Parking Garage or Copernicus Parking Garage. There will be Special Events post signs to direct attendees walking from the garages to Welte Auditorium.

The courtyard between Welte and the Student Center is  for lunch - weather permitting. Fliers will be provided listing places to eat.
No lunch nor CEU's are being provided. A Certificate of Attendance can be issued at the end of the day.
Weather permitting there will be an outdoor BBQ with lunches available for about $8 per person.
