MOTHERS FOR A HUMAN FUTURE

The mission of Mothers for a Human Future is to build a global, mother-driven movement to preserve our humanity. Our aim is to mobilize mothers to lead in the struggle to save our humanity in an age driven by the values of commerce and technology—values that are hollowing out our conception of what it means to be human.

In a world overrun by “money world” values, our purpose is to equip mothers to be effective leaders for what we call “mother world” values. These are self-restraint, concern for the other, and stewardship—values that are essential for the care and nurture of human beings--and for the preservation of humanity.

Mothers for a Human Future is the successor to the Motherhood Project which was based at the Institute for American Values from 2000 through 2009. The Motherhood Project successfully: 1) launched a mothers' campaign against the commercialization of childhood; 2) convened a national symposium of mothers to pave the way for an end to the media-generated "mommy wars;" and 3) designed and conducted a national motherhood study that pointed to key elements of a mothers' agenda for social change.

Mothers for a Human Future is a wholly independent initiative that builds on the anti-commercialization work of the Motherhood Project to include advocacy and activism on new technologies that are putting us on a path to what has been called a “post-human” future.
