FREE The Harriet Beecher Stowe Center welcomes the U.S. Congressional Black Caucus to Hartford to mark the author’s Bicentennial and participate in a public program Call to Action: A Conversation on Race and Social Justice with community leaders and activists. Stowe’s antislavery novel, Uncle Tom’s Cabin, changed public attitudes before the Civil War. Congressman John B. Larson and Stowe Center Executive Director Katherine D. Kane will welcome the delegation, scheduled to include the following: Emanuel Cleaver III (chairman) and William Lacy Clay Jr. of Missouri; Corrine Brown of Florida; G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina; Hank Johnson of Georgia; Jesse Jackson Jr. of Illinois; Sheila Jackson Lee of Texas; Gregory Meeks of New York; Donald Payne of New Jersey and Laura Richardson of California.
