AAPA and NMA Promote Health Equity - American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA)

As America's population becomes increasingly diverse, health care providers are recognizing the importance of connecting with those they serve by developing culturally-informed, patient-centered approaches to care. Today, the American Academy of Physician Assistants and theNational Medical Association established an accord to promote cultural competence and diversity among their constituent health care professionals in order to reduce health disparities.
The partnership is aimed at enhancing the cultural sensitivity among members of the health care team, ultimately impacting access to and delivery of high quality health care in racially, ethnically and economically diverse communities.
"Cultural competence is fundamental to delivering patient-centered care," said Robert Wooten, PA-C, who will assume AAPA's presidency on June 10. "AAPA is proud and eager to work with NMA to seek ways to grow the PA workforce and create opportunities to better serve racially and ethnically diverse communities."
