Announcement from
the Connecticut State Department of Education (CSDE) & the State Education Resource Center (SERC)
Wednesday, June 8, 2011 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (Lunch included.)
James Hillhouse
High School 480 Sherman Parkway New Haven, CT 06511
On behalf of CSDE and SERC, and in collaboration with the CT Black Alliance for Education Options (CT BAEO), you are cordially invited to advance the agenda of equity and social justice for young Black and Hispanic/Latino males in Connecticut. The Black & Hispanic/Latino Male Forum for New Haven County has been designed to bring together members from various constituencies (e.g., public schools, higher education, faith-based organizations, legislators, fraternal organizations, Connecticut-based civic organizations, and state agencies) in order to engage in courageous dialogue and renew the commitment to the social, emotional, and academic development and success of our young Black and Hispanic/Latino male students, specifically in New Haven County.
The main function of the Regional Forum is to aid in the organization of local resources and supports. We also seek to contribute to the alignment of those assets to the priority needs of Black and Hispanic/ Latino males located in specific regions across the state.
The New Haven Regional Forum will focus on the root causes of high school dropout and the resulting long-term consequences for young men of color. Participants will have an opportunity to have conversations about postsecondary access and opportunities, as well as hear directly from students about what they feel they need in order to succeed in school and life overall.
