Bank Announces Partnership with City’s Youth@Work Employment
Program, Present Donation to Hillhouse High School Band and Celebrate
Community Leaders
Honorees:
Mary Ann Moran,
Daniel Diaz,
Sheila Masterson, and
Evelyn Streater Frizzle.
As part of the celebration, Start unveiled a number of
initiatives that speak to its dual bottom line of profitability and
positive community impact on Wednesday April 27, 2011.
First, the bank will unveiled its unique
“Youth@Work” savings account. Participants in this summer jobs
program will be eligible for direct deposit of their pay into a savings
account opened in the participant’s own name. The student will have
completed financial literacy training, but this account will elevate
literacy to capability - the student will have to understand how to
navigate online banking, E-statements, balancing an account, saving
money, and safeguarding an ATM card. Secondly, in honor of all that have
assisted in the formation of the bank,
START is making a significant
donation to Hillhouse High School to help the band purchase new uniforms
and new instruments. This represents just the prelude of Start’s
commitment and ongoing relationship with Principal Carolina and his
student body. Third, the bank presented its first annual Start
Community Bank Community Catalyst awards to four members of the New
Haven community who lead lives of powerful example, and who, with little
fanfare or recognition, serve as positive role models and agents of
change.
