Today, the Census Bureau released a new data product that will assist state and local governments in avoiding prison-based gerrymandering, a practice that unjustly gives districts with prisons extra representation in the legislature by counting incarcerated individuals as local residents. The Bureau's accelerated release of the 2010 group quarters table was hailed by Demosand the Prison Policy Initiative.
