Southern Connecticut State University Women's Studies Program Presents: 64 Days of Nonviolence 2011 Courageous Conversation on White Privilege Featuring: Robert Jensen- Professor in the School of Journalism at the University of Texas at Austin. Jensen teaches courses in media law, ethics, and politics. In his research, Jensen draws on a variety of critical approaches to media and power. Much of his work has focused on pornography and the radical feminist critique of sexuality and men’s violence, and he also has addressed questions of race through a critique of white privilege and institutionalized racism. Gary Holder-Winfield- (D-CT), State Representative for District 94. He is heavily involved in the local community, serving as the Newhallville Neighborhood Representative for Empower New Haven and a member of People against Injustice. As a state legislator, Rep. Holder-Winfield opposes prison expansion and Three Strikes legislation, instead supporting re-entry programs and alternatives to incarceration. Jack Hasegawa- Japanese American who worked courageously in the 1960s for Civil Rights in the South. Mr. Hasegawa earned a Masters in Theological Studies from Harvard Divinity School. He participated in demonstrations to desegregate eating places and voter registration drives in the South and was also a community organizer in the Roxbury section of Boston and later in the housing projects of Osaka, Japan. Today he is Chief of the Bureau of Educational Equity in the Connecticut State Department of Education. Grace Yun- Director of InterRelations Collaborative, Inc. a nonprofit educational organization. Trained in Higher Education Policy and Administration, she has taught Asian American Studies courses that include The Historical Role and Status of Asian Women in American Society, Myths and Realities: From the Yellow Peril to the Model Minority, and Asian American History and Culture.
