Brown University’s oldest graduate turns 107

Brown University’s oldest graduate turns 107 on Wednesday | Rhode Island news | projo.com | The Providence Journal: "Born and raised in Providence, daughter of a dressmaker and a night watchman, Coleman went to Pembroke College, the women’s school that eventually became part of Brown University. She was one of only seven African-Americans in her class. She joined Alpha Kappa Alpha, the African-American sorority, and majored in humanities.

Upon graduating in 1925, she moved to Philadelphia to teach at St. Mary’s School for Girls because there was no similar school for black children in Providence where she could get a job."
