BLACK WALL ST PAVES WAY TO SUCCESS

In Oakland, there's a potpourri of African American-owned restaurants, auto repair shops, barbershops, professional offices and other businesses that make up a section of International Boulevard from High Street to the San Leandro border.
They call themselves Black Wall Street, a name borrowed from a tragic episode in American history that I'll explain in a moment.
Oakland's Black Wall Street is the founding member of a national organization, www.blackwallstreet.org - a modern-day push for self-empowerment and self-determination, which have remained elusive goals for many African Americans since the early 20th century.
