 Connecticut Lottery Corporation Responds to Criticism Concerning Small and Minority-Owned Business 

Contracting Practices

In response to recent claims made by the Greater New England Minority Supplier Development Council concerning the Connecticut Lottery Corporation’s (CT Lottery) contracting with minority owned businesses, Anne M. Noble, President and CEO of the CT Lottery, a quasi-public agency of the state, has released the following statement:

“The Connecticut Lottery Corporation fully complies with the Connecticut Department of Administrative Services’ (DAS) set-aside program and has significantly exceeded those goals on an annual basis.

“As documented in DAS’ Annual SBE/MBE (Set-Aside) Goal Achievement Summary Reports, the CT Lottery has exceeded those requirements on a sustained basis. The CT Lottery supports and encourages registration of small and minority-owned businesses through the state’s Supplier Diversity Program, a program to which the CT Lottery is fully committed.

“We are proud of our record of support for the local business community and will continue our long-established practice to purchase from small and minority-owned businesses whenever possible.  Statements that assert otherwise are a gross misrepresentation of the CT Lottery’s commitment to diversity, purchasing practices, and support for the local business communities.

“As an agency that partners with more than 2,000 local businesses annually, it is unfortunate that the leadership of the GNEMSDC has targeted the CT Lottery in this manner.  We are always amenable to having constructive dialogues to better serve all citizens of the state.”
