Her remark reminded me that the first black mayors, ie Carl Stokes, Ken Gibson, Richard Hatcher were elected just as their cities were suffering horrendous fiscal problems due in part to white flight, businesses moving to the suburbs, suburban mall development, foreign outsourcing etc.
Ask yourself why did it take until the late 1960's for New Haven to have representative black aldermanic representation? Let us not forget that former Mayor Dick Lee lived in Newhallville once upon a time.
Lastly, let us recall that the Commander in Chief inherited a historic global financial collapse.
