State of Connecticut Martin Luther King Day 25th Anniversary Celebration January 2011

January 17, 2011 will mark the 25 anniversary of our nation’s official recognition of the Martin Luther King Holiday.Here in Connecticut, although we will mark the occasion as a 25th anniversary celebration, in actuality, Connecticut began officially observing the King Holiday in 1973 and – with Illinois and Massachusetts – were the first states to do
Because it is the 25th anniversary of the holiday, the King Commission and the State of Connecticut have planned an entire weekend of special ceremonies and celebrations. 2011 will be Connecticut’s most extensive and most significant recognition of the life and legacy of Dr. King.
Friday, January 14 Presentation of MLK award plaques by the Commission to schools in each of CT’s five congressional districts.; Creation of a MLK Club and scholarship at each school.Saturday, January 15 Black tie dinner gala
Sunday, January 16 MLK Prayer Breakfast
Monday, January 17 Martin Luther King Day Ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda, including CT constitutional officers, musical performances, keynote speaker and presentation of the annual Martin Luther King Day Awards
On Saturday, January 15th, 2011, the Connecticut Martin Luther King Commission will host a black tie dinner gala to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the holiday. Business executives, community leaders, Connecticut clergy and elected officials from across the state will be in attendance.  There will be musical tributes to Dr. King, a distinguished keynote speaker, and award presentations for the following distinguished individuals
