Restoration Complete at 13 Lewis - Chatham Square
Thanks to the work of many local craftspeople and my partner Nancy's ruthless attention to detail, the restoration of the 1876 oysterman's house at the top of Lewis Street Park is nearly complete. Here are links to photos of 13 Lewis from street, the kitchen, and the view from the rear porch. The house received its certificate of occupancy last week and we're awaiting the results of our final energy audit. We expect to receive a Home Energy Rating Score of between 50 and 55; that means the house will consume about 1/2 the energy of a newly built house of the same size built to code, and about 1/4 what it would have consumed prior to renovations. We plan to guarantee it won't cost more than somewhere between $600 and $800 per year for heat and hot water at current natural gas prices. The house is 1500 sq. ft, has 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, living room, kitchen dining room, kitchen and a ground floor family room and mud room with kitchen hookup and bath that could be converted to a rental studio apartment. Stay tuned for a neighborhood open house event. We will be soliciting offers directly from buyers at a suggested price of $287,500. If you know of any carbon-conscious families looking for an historic house in Fair Haven, they can call me at 203 376 1664. Thanks to all for their good wishes and support during the last 6 months of work. --Corey
