Ficklin  Media Note: As a former Yale Club of New Haven board member I noticed last week that members of the club were meeting at the New Haven Boys and Girls Club. I stopped by for a quick photo and asked Stephanie Barnes to provide me with a little background- thanks Stephanie!

Hi Tom,

I thought I was seeing things when you zipped in and out so quickly:) I didn't realize the connection, but I'm glad you were able to come by.
The Yale Club of New Haven began working with BGCNH in the spring of 2010, initially volunteering their time to provide a mentoring session for youth ages 12-17 during Yale's Day of Service.

Mentoring is a part of everything we do at the Club, so we were excited to facilitate this experience for Club members. But mentoring is not a one shot deal, so both groups committed to continue the work.
The long histories of both Yale and BGCNH in New Haven made this a natural connection. If you remember, the former club was named for Albie Booth, a notable Yale alum.
Both BGCNH and the Yale Club recognized the impact that the first session had and thought it important to keep these sessions going, following up with a similar session on Sat., 12/4.
This relationship is still taking shape, but the YCNH would like to work with this same group of young people to mentor them over time and to provide a variety of experiences and exposure, building life skills and career coaching/guidance.

BGCNH will continue to educate the Yale Club about our programs and provide opportunities for the Yale Club to become more involved, not only as mentors, but as ambassadors for the Club.
During Saturday's session, there was a young man who hopes to be an actor but didn't know much about how to get started. One of the Yale Alum in the room was a 20+ year professor of drama and provided valuable insight and direction for the young man.
We hope to expand this relationship to include Yale Club sponsored activities for BGCNH youth.  This could include BGCNH kids participation in selected Yale Club outings, among other opportunties.

Many thanks,

Steph
