A Magnificent Home Going Celebration

Just returned from the MAGNIFICENT Ben Hunter Home Going Celebration- Magnificent might seem like a strange term to use. Mayor DeStefano, William Hunter, Jackee Bryant, Andre Dupree, Drs John Dow, Lonnie Garris, Reginald Mayo and Tim Shriver  shared reflections and insights regarding ourselves, Ben and the community .With the eulogy poignantly delivered by Jeffie Frazier, we were enthralled by Jeffie's challenge to value your self worth more than your financial worth.  As we enter the holiday season, and even during any season quite frankly, this community celebration of remembrance was magnificent. Do  not be mad at me, but all I can say is just ask anyone in attendance in the lovingly packed Immanuel Baptist Church.

Tom,

How true. I was not a student of Mr. Hunter's, nor did I work for him in any capacity. But I knew him through the Hillhouse family that my Dad was a part of : Red Vertarame, Ernie Roth, et al. And who didn't know "HUNT?" Today's service seemed to reflect that--an all full church, the gentlemen of Omega Psi Phi doing their ritualistic tribute, and all laughter very few tears, at least, at the service. It seems that despite how some have remembered him, his community--and the Hillhouse community, came out in full force to show their love and support. I believe that Mr. Hunter wouldn't have wanted it any other way--he was remembered the way the community wanted him remembered, as someone, who in his own way, gave love to the community. And the community today gave back that love in their support and rememberance of Mr. Hunter.
