Hamden Woman Collects Priceless African-American Art - Hamden, CT Patch

You would think after 35 years of collecting more than 2,000 mostly priceless African American artifacts, it would take a major find to excite Valerie Clinton Bertrand.
It doesn't.  She says the research, the questions and the possibilities are what gives her a joyful jolt. And of course, there's the hunt.
Bertrand, a longtime Hamden resident, has built an impressive treasure trove of historical African American artifacts. For example, she has books and documents signed by some of the most recognized  African Americans in history, including Elijah Muhammad, Arthur Ashe, Martin Luther King, ArchBishop Desmond Tutu, Booker T Washington, Langston Hughes, Clayton " Peg Leg" Bates and Frederick Douglass, the great abolitionist.
