Celebrate the Anniversaries of
The Black West and Black Indians in 2011
The year 2011 will mark the 40th anniversary of The Black West—a book that Alice Walker called "A guide to the real America"—and the 25th anniversary of Black Indians. You can celebrate these groundbreaking texts and the oft overlooked history they contain with a presentation from author William Loren Katz.
An acclaimed lecturer, Katz has presented at New York's American Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian Institution, the Schomburg Library and more than fifty other universities, museums, and libraries. He has also been a guest on network TV and radio, and has hosted his own history news program on Pacifica radio. Mark these special anniversaries with a Black History Month event, classroom lectures, or other presentations featuring Katz. In 2008, the Oberlin Heritage Center received an "Excellence Award" from The Ohio Association of Historical Societies and Museums, and an "outstanding accomplishment certificate" from the Ohio State Assembly and Senate for sponsoring two talks by Katz.
