Steelers heading to Pop Warner championships- The New Haven Register - Serving New Haven, Connecticut
NEW HAVEN — Having defeated yet another team Saturday, the New Haven Steelers junior pee wee Pop Warner team No. 2 will join two other local youth teams in Florida next weekend for national championships.
The Steelers and the West Haven Seahawks midget division Pop Warner team will travel to play in Disney World and the East Haven Youth Football Easties will go to Kissimmee, Fla.
The Pop Warner and American Youth Football national championship tournaments both run from Dec. 4-10; they are two entirely separate organizations with their own teams, leagues and playoffs.
The Steelers, with a 14-1 record this season, played a team from Rhode Island Saturday in the New England Pop Warner Regional Championship and won 36-0.
“It’s beautiful. The kids are very excited,” said Reggie Lytle, New Haven Pop Warner league president.
The team is accepting donations for travel expenses. Checks can be made out to New Haven Pop Warner and sent to 125 Glenn Ridge Road, Hamden 06518, or call Lytle at 203-809-2932.
