Connecticut Democrats Still Oppose Death Penalty - WSJ.com
Dan Malloy, set to become Connecticut's first Democratic governor in two decades, said throughout his campaign for the office that he'd seek to ban the state's death penalty. And his spokesman said the governor would sign such a bill if the legislature passes it.
Rep. Gary Holder-Winfield, a New Haven Democrat, said he "absolutely" intends to introduce anti-death penalty legislation in 2011, saying he'd already started the process of writing it. Mr. Holder-Winfield, who serves on the Judiciary Committee, got a similar bill through the legislature in 2009 but it was vetoed by Republican Gov. M. Jodi Rell.
