With its third-graders posting the worst reading scores in the state over several recent years, the city is embarking on a campaign to enlist help from parents and community volunteers.
Various youth advocacy organizations have put together $325,000 for the effort, and the state Department of Education is putting up another $150,000, educators and community leaders said Tuesday at a ceremony to promote the campaign.
