PRESS RELEASE
DESTINY AFRICA CHILDREN’S CHOIR
TO PERFORM AT WESLEYAN UNIVERSITY
Wesleyan University will host a night of hope and inspiration with the Destiny Africa Children's Choir from Kampala, Uganda as they return to the State of Connecticut to begin their 2nd annual New Hope, New Start 2010 USA Tour that will run from Sept.10 - November 17 from Vermont through Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The choir is comprised of orphaned Ugandan children ages 9 - 18, rescued from horrific and desperate situations and conditions that exist in their country. The Rev. Arnold Muwonge and his wife, Josephine, founded the orphanage in 2005. Most of the children at the center were found on the streets of Kampala, orphaned when their parents were killed by rebels or died of AIDS. Because of the power of love, their lives have been transformed and given meaning with a new hope and a new start at the Kampala Children's Centre.
With voices filled with hope and faces bright with joy, the story of the Destiny African Children's Choir is an extraordinary tale and the inspiration for their glorious music. Dressed in their colorful garb, these bright, beautiful children present a lively mix of traditional and contemporary music, songs, dances, stories and awesome drumming!
Experience their passion, their story and their talent Thursday, September 30, at Wesleyan University Memorial Chapel, High Street, in Middletown, Connecticut at 7PM.
Admission is free. Donations will be accepted to support the work of the Kampala Children's Centre, the orphanage where the children live in Kampala, Uganda.
When Wesleyan’s Protestant Chaplain Reverend Joan Cooper Burnett discovered the children were returning for a second tour in Connecticut, she and the students at Wesleyan committed to a service project in support of the orphans. Burnett said, “This is our kickoff event for our service project. We are extremely excited to host the children from Uganda! We extend an opportunity for those not attending the concert, to make donations in honor of Wesleyan through Partners in Transformation P.O. Box 2181 South Burlington, VT
