Yes, Uganda’s youth need a new political direction

Since the Uganda Youth Convention (UYC) ended, a lot of opinions have been expressed, the most notable being the one that was entitled “Uganda’s youth need a new political direction”.

The writer of this article could have been mistaken for being an organiser of the National Youth Convention 2010.

The forum brought together more than 10,000 youth from all the districts of Uganda, never mind that less than 6,000 had fully registered, prior to the conference.

While some sections of the media dwelt on the attitudes and mindsets of those who wanted to destabilise the event and its success, at Makerere more than 5,000 youth were undergoing skills training and building by different speakers.

Charles Ocici of Enterprise Uganda set the tone that would eventually drive the convention. It was clear that those who were screaming and asking for allowances had not crystallised the problems we face as a country.
