Bank of America’s ‘Mixing Metaphors’ Exhibition of African American Art Visits
Howard University Gallery of Art
Washington, D.C. (Aug. 10, 2010) – Howard University and Bank of America will showcase a significant collection of contemporary African American art from the Bank of America Collection in an exhibition titled Mixing Metaphors: the Aesthetic, the Social and the Political in African American Art from August 14 through December 17 at the Howard University Gallery of Art.

The works in Mixing Metaphors were selected by guest curator, Deborah Willis, well known photographer, art historian and art educator, who divided the exhibition into three sections: Reflection and Likeness, Constructing Place and Rituals of Existence. The thematic sections allow visitors to examine more than 90 photographs, paintings, prints, drawings, sculpture and mixed media executed by 36 different artists. The exhibit informs, and challenges viewers to think critically about the role art plays in society and how imagery affects their interpretation of what they see.
