BRIDGEPORT -- The sudden leap in the city's homicide count from 12 to 16 in one week has alarmed political, civic and religious leaders.
Carolyn Vermont, president of the Greater Bridgeport chapter of the NAACP, said she felt "disgusted" and "sick" when she learned that three people were shot to death in two separate incidents Saturday, just days after a store clerk was fatally shot at a convenience store in the West Side.
