Please join us for Survivorship Sunday in Harlem, a special event sponsored by Senator Bill Perkins, will celebrate the survivorship of cancer in women and men in our community, and unite cancer survivors, caregivers, family members, friends and healthcare professionals to honor survivors for their strength and courage, and recognize the contributions of their supporters. Survivorship Sunday in Harlem will take place on July 18, 2010 from 2:00–6:00 p.m. at the Adam Clayton Powell, Jr. State Office Building, 163 West 125th Street in the second floor Art Gallery.
Survivorship Sunday in Harlem will feature keynote speaker, Hoda Kotb, co-anchor of NBC’s The Today Show. In addition, The One Accord Dance Ministry of the Gospel Assembly of Harlem will perform. The Aesthetics of Health an interactive workshop using techniques from the Theatre of the Oppressed will be conducted by Cultural Animator, Jeremiah Kyle Drake. The visual art exhibition Clock Strikes Thirteen, a commemoration of the journeys of 13 notable Black women who lost their lives to breast cancer, as well as other assemblage art works by mixed-media visual artist and breast cancer survivor, Wilhelmina Obatola Grant will be on display. And, Survive & Thrive: Hope, Laughter and Truth, a newly released documentary DVD featuring Grant and ten other breast cancer survivors sharing survivorship experiences during an Alaskan retreat will be screened.
Admission is free, refreshments will be served, reservations are required, space is limited, prompt RSVP is recommended. A valid photo ID is required to enter the building.
