STATE OF BLACK CT ALLIANCE, COMMUNITY EMPOWERMENT COLLABORATIVE

Happy Summer Education Reformers :)
This is Gwen Samuel, Chairperson of the State of Black CT Alliance. It is my distinct pleasure to invite you to the official launch of a new and innovative initiative of the State of Black CT Alliance (SBCTA). The Community Empowerment Collaborative, featuring SBCTA’s 3K Curriculum: Know Your Child, Know Your School, Know Your Community©2010 will be unveiled on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, 8:30-12:00 noon at Central Connecticut State University in the Constitution Room, Memorial Hall, 1615 Stanley St. New Britain, CT 06051.
SBCTA in conjunction with Dr. Marlon James of the NEAG School of Education at the University of Connecticut has arranged a thoughtful and progressive series of collaborative experiences designed to build essential partnerships for effective schools.
SBCTA supports the Connecticut Department of Education’s (CSDE) and U.S. Department of Education commitments to help turn around low-performing schools thus ensuring each student graduates high school, college- and career- ready.
SBCTA builds on a critical prerequisite for achieving child and adult success, the inclusion of family and community voices. This family and community voice builds on the groundwork that Connecticut has laid across state departments and grassroots alliances for effective family advocacy, and aligns itself with Connecticut's continued work of building family and community engagement capacity at the local levels
The State of Black CT Alliance convenes a statewide network of stakeholders committed to creating a high quality of life for Connecticut’s Black community through accountability, policy research, community services, education and advocacy. With your assistance, we can continue to support and strengthen Connecticut’s public policy response to eliminate socio-economic inequities, close the academic achievement gap and to ensure each student graduates high school, college- and career- ready.
We look forward to your participation in the Community Empowerment Collaborative. Please RSVP by Wednesday, July 12, 2010.
Change begins with us therefore I look forward to seeing you there.
