A bell on the wall at STRIVE-New Haven rings in celebration when its unemployed clients find work.
But when Adrian Fletcher, a Gulf War veteran of the Navy, graduated from the three-week job readiness program and garnered a teaching job, no tones rang out.
“For posterity I couldn’t do it. In the Navy, ringing a bell means you quit and I will never quit,” he said.
