The Opening Day of Walter "PoP" Smith Little League Baseball took place on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The day was dedicated to Gary Chambers, longtime champion for youth and driven servant for all that youth leadership,development and nurturing means. Spring is here.Gary's first spring sunrise was on April 4, 1954. His spring sunset was on April 3, 2010. Echoes of play ball , laughter, yelling, jokes and disputed umpire calls will now ensue . But throughout it all let's dedicate this season to all the Gary stood for, kneeled for , ran for and prayed for. How do you reach the young people today is the often asked question. Fair enough. The answer is that each of us can develop a unique method to reach someone and to touch someone. We are all playing this game of life. Perhaps we can strive not to be called out by the umpire up above before we have hit a few homeruns for , with and beside our youth. Let's give peace a chance. Gary sure did!
