Masjid Al-Islam, a Muslim house of worship located at 624 George Street in New Haven CT has announced a free community health clinic

Masjid Al-Islam, a Muslim house of worship located at 624 George Street in New Haven CT has announced a free community health clinic to be held on Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 10am-3pm. It will take place at Hill Cooperative High School at 140 Legion Avenue in New Haven. Any persons who do or do not have health insurance can access services such as: on-site blood pressure check; glucose screening; health education (on nutrition and exercise); height, weight and BMI assessment; as well as seasonal flu shots and H1N1 flu shots. All services are absolutely and completely free.
Shamshad Sheikh, Masjid Al-Islam’s Outreach Coordinator and the event’s organizer stated that, “I am very pleased with the cooperation and substantial material support that we have received from the City of New Haven’s Health Department in being flexible about serving the New Haven Community’s needs during these tough economic times. We look forward to working with them in the future on similar projects”. She further stated that “Doctors nurses and health care providers from area hospitals and beyond have been very generous with volunteering to plan and implement this much needed service.”
According to Professor Jimmy Jones, President of the Board of Masjid Al-Islam and Chair of City Block watch #311, another of the event’s co-sponsors “This clinic represents an effort by Masjid Al-Islam and our Dwight area block watch to play a small role in filling what is a very big gap in health care. We pray that Congress and the President will finally get together and do something about the suffering of our many uninsured citizens”.
