The FBI WAR ON TUPAC

The FBI WAR ON TUPAC a free film screening was held on WED-FEB 17 at the NEW HAVEN DOWNTOWN LIBRARY.We have heard oh so often that freedom is not free . A price it is said must be paid. Whether it is a deferred price, cash on demand, a bill of laden, seven years of servitude, a pledge of honor or a negotiable instrument of exchange, this evolving commodity called freedom seems to have an oscillating price. Some seem able to pay and pass go and others appear to be always lacking that necessary downpayment and sometimes winding up in the proverbial, metaphorical and literal jail. Whether freedom can be foreclosed upon might appear to be conjecture, given the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, The Supreme Court , the Justice Department and other related instruments of societal protection . Yet watching the FBI WAR on Tupac Shakur and other Black leaders challenges the notion of equal justice for all. History is of course perhaps no more than the continual rewriting of debated facts. An attempt to define something that is inherently debatable.ie Did Barack Obama win by acclamation or default? Did Bush 2 win the second time, or did the Supreme Court steal it for him? But I digress , the FBI WAR on TUPAC reminds us that the notion of freedom as defined by and desired by folks categorized as leftists, activists and others appeared to have attracted the attention of the FBI. The extent of this attention is portrayed in the film as fatal attention. And we are want to do in January with the mantra recitation of "Let Freedom Ring", this film reminds us that the quest to ring the freedom bell, can be perhaps deathening!

The FBI War on Tupac Shakur and Black Leaders contains a wealth of names, dates and events detailing the use of COINTELPRO style tactics by the FBI against two generations of leftist activists and political rap artists. Based on 12 years of research and includes over 900 endnotes. Sources include over 100 interviews, FOIA-released CIA and FBI documents, court transcripts, and many mainstream media outlets.
The FBI War on Tupac Shakurpresents evidence that U.S. Intelligence employed similar tactics to assassinate Tupac Shakur, Robert F. Kennedy, environmentalist Judi Bari, and Filberto Ojeda Rios. This 3rd and final edition has additional material including how the FBI deputized 23,000 corporate executives, the Intelligence targeting of author Richard Wright and evidence of police intelligence cover-up around Jam Master Jay's murder. It quotes CIA and FBI whistleblowers who describe the agencies' continued COINTELPRO activity, particularly against the black left. Of special interest in the author's analysis of the control of US Intelligence over media and culture.
