THE BLACK CHURCH SINGS


The Heritage Chorale annual February concert, "The Black Church Sings" took place on Sunday, February 14 at 5:00 PM at Bethel AME Church on Goffe Street. What a blessed way to celebrate Valentines Day in the sharing of music about God's love for us! This was the 2nd concert in the Heritage Chorale's 3-concert season. They concert celebrated the spiritual journey to our eternal home through song selections including Duke Ellington's "Heaven", Undine Smith Moore's "Oh, That Bleeding Lamb" and "Wake Me Up, Lord" by Uzee Brown, Jr. The Heritage Chorale is now an embedded New Haven institution and the deserve our support.

Founded and Directed by Jonathan Q. Berryman, this ensemble of 48+ voices features classical to contemporary music of the African American liturgical tradition as well as other anthems, hymns and folk inspired choral music. A favorite collaborator of other Greater New Haven vocal and instrumental ensembles, the Chorale has performed at Lincoln Center in NY and the National Cathedral in Washington, DC.
