WORKING TO CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP


The National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa-Delta Phi Chapter presented a Teach-A-Rama "WORKING TO CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP" on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at the COOP High School

Dr. Doris J. Kurtz delivered an insightful and informative keynote address entitled What Causes the Achievement Gap, followed by an idea packed, pragmatic, yet visionary interactive panel discussion, with distinguished guests:
Dr. Reginald Mayo, Superintendent New Haven Public Schools
Dr. Gloria Holmes, Quinnipiac University and Dr. James Comer.It is worth noting in particular that Dr. Comer and his Comer School Development Program has received national and international acclaim.

Participatory workshops concluded the meaningful morning pertaining to Best Practices in the 90 Minute Literacy Block, Advancing Literacy through Vocabulary,
Everything You Wanted to Know About Math, But Were Afraid to Ask and Best Practices in the 45/60 Minute Math Block.
Each session focused on effective teaching and classroom management
strategies for structuring 90 minute literacy and numeracy blocks and bridging the
gap between research and practice in small group instruction.
