An Urban City Taking Responsibility

An Urban City Taking Responsibility was the theme of a community meeting held at the Community Outreach Center on Wednesday evening, January 6, 2010. The press release says it all. ( see below) And yet, the action step solutions still need to occur so that we can report on them ! If interested in joining the crusade contact Shafig R. F. Abdussabur.( contact information below)

(New Haven, CT – January 6, 2010) As you all know, a rash of homicides that started in October of 2009 has plagued our city (seven gun related fatal gunshots homicides to date). As a dedicated member in the field of law enforcement, my fellow officers and I are outraged by these acts of ignorance. We can all agree that the “police” alone will not bring an end to urban gun violence. We must now unify and rise to the occasion. Like many of you, I have family, friends, constituents and even myself who live, work and play in the city. We all have something to loose and the longer we take to assume our new roles of ridding our city of these “villains,” the longer these events will continue.

Know that everyone of you play an ongoing urgent role in building the urban community of New Haven and many of you have suffered great losses that have put you directly on the “front line” of this national urban health crisis.

At 6:00pm on Wednesday January 6, 2010 at the COC located at 255 Goffe Street, New Haven, various
community leaders, political leaders, law enforcement officers, youth leaders, victim families and concerned citizens will be meeting to develop strategic plans to deal with these acts of violence in our city. Please come out and be a part of the plan. Your professional and personal and spiritual impute is greatly welcomed.

Many New Haven residents have already lost one, and in some cases multiple family members and friends in this “war of the ignorant.” As they grieve, we grieve with them. Know that I, the staff, the volunteers, and the partners and of CTRIBAT Institute For Social Development Inc. seek to eradicate the elements that lead to urban gun violence!
