In November 1839 a party of 216 free 'American persons of Color' arrived
at Port of Spain in Trinidad on the ship METAMORA, as reported in the
Trinidad Standard of 15 November 1839, followed nine years later, in
1848, by another party of 32 (15 men, 12 women, 3 boys and 2 girls) who
left Darien (Connecticut?) on 30 January 1848 on the CINGALESE of 276
tons, arriving at Port of Spain on 23 February 1848.
