My Dinner with Abbie
In “My Dinner with Abbie,” co-producer Nancy Cohen interviews revolutionary hero Abbie Hoffman. The interview takes place in Sarge’s Deli in New York, 1987, just before Hoffman’s 50th birthday and two years before he committed suicide.
In this candid discussion, Cohen and Hoffman examine the defining moments from Hoffman’s raucous life as a social and political activist. He explains what it was like to be banned from 11 states during the 60s
and his thoughts on being arrested to make a political statement. Hoffman describes his life underground from 1973 to 1980 as a fugitive from the law having been charged with cocaine trafficking.
Their conversation takes on several directions and provides great insight into Hoffman’s psyche, an American symbol of youth rebellion and radical activism.
