The Yale Law School held a conference on the future of journalism,on November 13-14 2009.Participants attended from London, South America and Canada along with domestics.Journalism like needless to say every aspect of our society is being impacted if not undergoing as was often mentioned during the conference a process of "creative destruction." Often times we take for granted what is right under our nose, but the New Haven Independent was referenced several times by panelists during the conference as an important harbinger of what is to come. For better or worse change is here. Although new journalism is still in it's embryonic stage, signs of emergence are on the horizon. In fact although the New Haven Independent and similar entities are visible in the here and now, they might only the feint outlines of what is to come. Similar to viewing the x-ray of the unborn baby still in the mother and viewing the faint outlines, whether this new journalistic baby will grow up healthy and strong or quite frankly deformed remains to be seen. The caveat is that we the people are the parents of this new journalistic eco-species on the horizon. Blogs, facebook, internet radio are just early ripples on this interactive horizon.
